Project Description
Subject Matter Experts are needed to write and review assessment items according to provided guidelines and documentation. All assessment items are aligned to evidence statements. SMEs are responsible for content accuracy and will work with a learning designer who will review all items. SMEs will be required to write assessment items that are multiple choice questions. This includes answers and feedback/rationale. SMEs are responsible for 2 rounds of edits.
Course Description:
Advanced Zoology & Botany with Lab is an in-depth exploration of advanced topics in zoology and botany, including the study of animal and plant physiology, ecology, evolution, and taxonomy. This course will engage students in virtual, hands-on laboratory exercises to develop practical skills in virtual or hands-on lab activities, data collection, and analysis. This course builds on concepts from General Biology I and II, and Evolutionary Biology and contains instructional teaching strategies for classroom delivery.
In-depth knowledge of the content areas covered within the course including:
Course Topics:
- Taxonomy and classification systems
- Characteristics of life and their significance in classification
- Cell theory and cellular organization
- Animal kingdom characteristics and structures
- Plant kingdom characteristics and structures
- Plant and animal adaptations to their environments
- Plant and animal reproductive strategies
- Plant and animal physiological functions
- Plant responses to environmental stimuli
- Comparative anatomy and physiology of animals and plants
Utah SEEd Standards:
- Characteristics of animals
- Structure and function of major human organ systems
- How homeostasis is maintained in organisms
- Reproduction, development, and growth in organisms
- Behavior
Required Availability
- You must be immediately available for at least 20 hours/week (this will vary depending on the amount of questions).
- You must be available to complete the work in 2-4 weeks and adhere to strict deadlines.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
- Masters Degree in subject matter
- Post-Pandemic collegiate teaching experience
- 2+ years assessment item development experience
- 1+ years online assessment item development or review experience
- Experience using Google Workspace
- Ability to follow a provided style guide
- Ability to work effectively in an agile environment with a multi-phased roadmap
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Native-level American English language skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Must live in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
Our ideal candidate also has the following qualifications:
- PhD in subject matter
- Dual/concurrent career as educator and practitioner
- Expertise in developing and evaluating curricula—including learning objectives, selecting content, and designing learning experiences that align with educational standards (InTASC, CAEP, CEC, Utah).
- Experience with curriculum-based assessment and measurement
- Online pedagogy
- Use of various digital tools to facilitate instruction, communication, and assessment.
- Accommodating diverse learning needs in different settings (in-person, hybrid and remote)
- Ability to adapt assessment methods to different learning environments (in-person, hybrid and remote)
- Experience serving on item review panels
- Experience with bias and sensitivity reviews
- Familiarity with Bloom’s Taxonomy or Depth of Knowledge
