Job Description:

The University of Pittsburgh’s Computing Services and Systems Development (CSSD) Department is looking to fill the position of Assistant Director of Services and Solutions, a strategic and operational leadership position responsible for managing the IT Service Owner and Enterprise Software Development groups.

Reporting to the Director of Services and Solutions, this position will be responsible for managing all staff, daily operations, and performance of both groups. The incumbent will be expected to identify team improvement opportunities, mentor individual staff, help build a high performing culture, ensure consistent high-quality output across both teams, and help set strategic direction for these teams.

The Service Owner team is responsible for the strategic direction, lifecycle, and customer adoption for a subset of CSSD offered enterprise services. Service Owners also lead service linked group trainings, help departments solve business problems, and lead or manage projects related to new or upgraded services. The Assistant Director will actively look for opportunities to advance goals, promote CSSD’s technology services and continuously improve the level of services provided to customers, and identify and track relevant metrics aiding decision making leading to formal recommendations to CSSD Management and the Enterprise Architects regarding service strategy. The incumbent will also benchmark other universities to explore opportunities to continuously improve our services is a requirement.

The Software Development team is responsible for creating and maintaining enterprise web applications, implementing and maintaining service/application integrations, and managing the University’s Oracle-based Central Directory Service. The Assistant Director will oversee the design and development of enterprise-wide, mission-critical information systems as well as departmental systems, meet with vendors and aid in the selection of appropriate technical solution for the service being developed, review third party product recommendations, and oversee implementations. Resource allocation and project planning is a requirement for this position.

A Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Science, or related field with technical systems knowledge is required (or the equivalent in experience). Master’s preferred.
– Proven ability to efficiently problem solve and lead others under pressure
– Proven success in leading troubleshooting design and strategy
– Strong prioritization and team-directing skills
– Curiosity to learn new technologies or enhance existing technologies
– Five plus years of management experience.
