Job Description:

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the VP of Operations, the Facility, Safety &, Fleet Manager is responsible for the maintenance and any future building projects for our Cottage Grove Facility. This position will work to combine current safety and fleet practices and programs, and work to effectively control fleet, safety, accident and health exposures in the company at multiple facilities in North America.

Responsibilities:

Safety Management:

  • Combine and streamline current safety policies and practices across the North American organization
  • Develop and execute safety training program, including new hire safety onboarding, to meet company expectations and OSHA standards
  • Establish and maintain safety and safety training records across entire organization
  • Conduct safety audits at all locations on an established schedule
  • Work with facilities and operations managers to ensure the workplace and facilities are optimized for employee safety and efficiency
  • Lead safety committees by meeting regularly, delegating tasks and ensuring follow through
  • Involvement in safety incident and accident process to include refining current process, investigations, root cause analysis and execution/follow up on any action plans
  • Work with Human Resources to effectively manage any injured employees return to work and/or restrictions to help reduce workers compensation costs
  • Establish metrics and create employee visibility towards those metrics to drive improvements
  • Ensure forklift training program is in compliance and consistent across organization
  • Establish safety metrics to hold people accountable and drive cost reductions
  • Work with new facility operations managers to establish and implement safety programs

Fleet Management:

  • Develop and implement driver safety procedures, policies and programs.
  • Ensures that the company is in compliance with DOT and other federal, state, and local regulations and standards and ensures fleet activities are in compliance with company polices
  • Maintain DOT employee files to include auditing for compliance
  • Maintain DOT websites to make sure information is up to date. Review any DOT violations, implement corrections and improve future compliance
  • Manage current fleet and implement new fleets as needed. Fleet management to include ensuring vehicle maintenance and registration
  • Make sure all vehicles meet DOT standards and safety standards
  • Establish program to ensure regular vehicle inspections
  • Review vehicle accidents and explore root cause
  • Create driver onboarding program along with ongoing training programs
  • Work with Human Resources and managers to establish a disciplinary process for driving violations
  • Monitoring employee driving records and driver tracking
  • Manage the leased fleet program & purchases including consolidation of current programs and negotiating for most cost-effective options by evaluating for best types of vehicles to meet needs
  • Review fleet geo-tracking programs to ensure consistency. Review noted violations and work with operations managers to document and discipline as necessary
  • Establish fleet metrics to hold people accountable and drive cost reductions

Facilities management

  • Maintain current Cottage Grove Facility to meet the needs of the business
  • Research and send for quotation any new or possible renovations that are necessary
  • Manage and supervise maintenance team

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent required
  • Bachelors degree preferred

Experience:

  • Proven ability to manage safety and fleet across multiple locations throughout the U.S.
  • Facility maintenance and expansion experience necessary.
  • Developing programs and metrics to drive improved safety and fleet programs and reduce costs
  • Strong leadership skills and a proven background of influencing others and leading change
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people on different positions in the organization
  • Financial responsibility for operations budget planning, management to that plan and analysis of actuals

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to travel at least 10%
  • Strong ability to communicate with both internal and external customers
  • Ability to lead a diverse team
  • Able to quickly build and maintain good working relationships
  • A valid drivers license with acceptable driving record
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Background in SAP preferred
  • Proven analytical and problem- solving skills
