Job Description:
Overview
Researches, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in prototype fabrication, operation, and testing of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
Responsibilities
Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports
Assists drafters in developing the structural design of products using drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment and software
Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems
Plans and directs engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems
Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications
Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software
Recommends system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
Researches and analyzes Product Management design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications
Writes performance requirements for product development or engineering projects
Performs other duties that may be assigned
Qualifications
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
BSME from four-year college or university and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to use hand tools proficiently.
Ability to operate hoist safely.
Ability to use manual presses proficiently.
Ability to use air tools, grinders and saws proficiently.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; 3D Design software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software (MS Office).
