Job Description:

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, conduct critical and complex research and development projects on specific units and components contributing to the total assignment or end product under development. May specialize in a specific field of engineering. Work singly or act as a team leader. Interpret and establish engineering concepts involved and plan and organize procedures of research, development and design. Render technical assistance as team leader in the areas of design of components or units. Evaluate test results of pilot models and recommend changes to offset mechanical, electrical or other malfunctions to perfect products to the highest technological specifications. This is a non-supervisory position.

Responsibilities:

Personnel:

  • Work with other members of the product development team to translate customer requirements into engineering product specifications
  • Will act as lead on most assigned projects
  • Will provide work direction to lower level engineers and technicians
  • Train and lead design engineers and mechanical designers

Research & Development:

  • Research and develop engineering test specifications
  • Conduct patent searches and create/submit invention disclosures

Product Development:

  • Responsible for overall design of product
  • Responsible for meeting product development & material cost targets
  • Create and apply for design and utility patent
  • Develop DFMEA and coordinate with test plan, train in creating of DFMEA
  • Assist in the development and maintain PPS (Product Project Specifications)
  • Responsible for identifying, managing and identifying all compliance requirements
  • Hold technical reviews (brainstorm sessions and design reviews)
  • Develop and maintain a structured BOM (Bill Of Materials)
  • Support and trouble shoot the introduction of new products and in particular beta and pilot builds into manufacturing
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing and Purchasing to ensure the product is producible and meets the costing requirements defined in the product specification
  • Complete strength and fatigue analysis of all design proposals to ensure the product meets the design requirements
  • Determine and maximize container utilization and package size
  • Meets all product development milestones and deadlines
  • Work is stated in terms or objectives requiring project planning and judgment
  • Acts as technical authority in area of specialty on assigned projects
  • Works under minimal supervision; May have overall project responsibility

Quality:

  • Responsible for meeting product quality requirements

Marginal Job Functions:

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BS in Engineering and/or advanced degree

Experience:

  • At least 5-8 years of design engineer experience
  • Consumer products experience (a plus)

Other Requirements:

  • Experienced 3D CAD designer (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Ability and willingness to travel both internationally and domestically
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with numerous diverse groups and individuals
