JOB TITLE: SME Avionics Engineer – ADO

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Development Division (AFLCMC/ADO) develops, tests, and rapidly fields classified Air Force aeronautical capabilities. Project tasks include conducting studies to identify new capabilities; transition laboratory technologies to operational platforms; execute demonstrations; and develop, test, and rapidly field new capabilities for the warfighter.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primary focus will be on the development (RDT&E focused efforts) of an avionics mission systems architecture to support open systems architectures and modularity to the maximum extent practical.
  • Apply an understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles, processes, and procedures to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems.
  • Apply avionics expertise with the application of MIL-HDBK-516B Airworthiness Certification Criteria, to aircraft systems and subsystems.
  • Translate user requirements into weapons system requirements, which will be used to design, develop, fabricate, test and evaluate weapons systems, subsystems and equipment for eventual fielding and deployment.
  • Perform technical/mission analyses of existing and future operational requirements, assist in developing system concepts and perform technological/trade-off assessments of proposed designs/modifications.
  • Perform material solution analyses supporting design reviews.
  • Produce or support development of program documents and presentation materials.
  • Provide avionics engineering support to produce or review products that include the following: technical evaluations/plans; engineering studies, reports, and analyses; and acquisition strategies/plans such as: Initial Capabilities Document (ICD); Capabilities Development Document (CDD); CONOPS; System Requirements Document (SRD); System Specification; RFPs; System Engineering Plan (SEP); Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP); Program Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health Evaluation (PESHE); Information Support Plan (ISP); Program Protection Plan (PPP); Cybersecurity Strategy; Security Classification Guide (SCG); Consideration of Technology Issues; Data Management Strategy; Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Survivability Assessments; Net-Centric Data Strategy; Spectrum Supportability Determination; Technical Data Rights Strategy; Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA); Manufacturing Readiness Assessment (MRA); etc.
  • Attend all technical reviews and provide technical advice on the path forward to installation of the new hardware and software into the system: project team meetings, working groups, System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Test Readiness Review (TRR), Technical Coordination Meeting (TCM), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), Functional Configuration Audit (FCA), Physical Configuration Audit (PCA), Production Readiness Reviews (PRR), and Program Management Reviews (PMR).
  • Analyze equipment and software deficiencies; make recommendations for equipment and software deficiency corrections; and develop, integrate, and test equipment and software deficiency solutions.
  • Assist the Government in the engineering evaluation of prime and subcontractor recommendations for operational and support issues such as: evaluations of ECPs, CCPs, modification proposals, diminishing manufacturing sources, program risk.
  • Apply disciplined engineering to assure Operational Safety, Suitability and Effectiveness (OSS&E) compliance for all products. Includes OSS&E baseline document, metrics, and working with other organizations.
  • Implement avionics subsystem definition, development, integration, all verification methods to include review of ICD, sustainment, modeling/simulation, test and evaluation, and airworthiness certification across a wide range of hardware and software systems.
  • Support Aircraft Information Management Systems (AIMS) requirements/testing/certification and spectrum management requirements/testing/certification.
  • Support and conduct systems analyses to include, but are not limited to, avionics system design/design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessment.
  • Assist the customer in developing systems/subsystem specifications.
  • Perform analyses of avionics and subsystems including, but not limited to: system threat analysis, laser systems, computer systems, avionics interfaces, and multiplex bus communications; and identify potential issues and/or areas of improvement.
  • Assist in the development and testing of the program system hardware and software and its integration into the program system architecture.
  • Support and conduct performance effectiveness, cost effectiveness, cost performance, life-cycle cost, productibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical and schedule risk assessments, and scheduling trade-off studies.
  • Review system specific test plans and participate in the conduction of systems, subsystems, and component testing.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Security Clearance: Top Secret/SCI

  • Current Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility, and background investigation current within the past 6 years (interim clearances or outdated investigations are not acceptable).
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering with 15 years of relevant experience.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a SAP environment.

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Eight years working in the specialty task areas of avionics or software.
  • Experience in avionics open systems architecture, Airworthiness Certification, and OSS&E.
